Staff Software Engineer, Business Insurance

Join Gusto's rapidly growing Business Insurance team in New York, NY, to build the next generation of customer-facing insurance purchasing experiences. This hybrid role involves designing, building, and launching reliable, scalable, and AI-powered products that modernize how small businesses discover and buy insurance. You will take ownership of projects end-to-end, work closely with cross-functional partners, and help mentor other engineers.

• 8+ years of software development experience
• 2+ years of experience building customer-facing products at scale
• AI-native mindset with AI tools embedded in your daily workflow
• Proven end-to-end multi-quarter project delivery experience, from initial scoping and planning through execution, stakeholder management, and successful launch
• Strong Platform and Application Engineering experience such as services, APIs, data flows, and observability
• Strong documentation and communication skills to articulate technical tradeoffs to technical and non-technical audiences
• Ability to travel for a two-day office onboarding requirement
• Ability to work from the New York office on designated hybrid days approximately 2-3 days per week
